We Listen to Women.
Our goal at Boulder Nurse Midwives is to provide you with the type of prenatal care, birth experience and post-partum support that you are seeking.
Prenatal care:
Each visit with the midwives is personal and questions are welcomed. We are experts in pregnancy and childbirth and spend a large part of each visit teaching. (Please see links to educational resources). You will find that appointments are relaxed and as long as necessary to address any problems you may be encountering. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be reached by telephone or e-mail.
Labor and delivery support:
The birth experience is unique to every woman and we take the time necessary to understand and support your vision. Some women strive to have an unmedicated birth. For this group of women we are available to be at your side and offer suggestions to help labor progress to include ambulation, sitting on the birthing ball, massage, hydrotherapy (Jacuzzi tub), acupressure, aromatherapy and music therapy. There are other women who know that they want to have medication to help relieve pain during birth. We support this choice for women as well. When a woman asks for IV pain medication or an epidural we respect her decision. We believe that birth is a natural process and a majority of the time a non-medical event. We offer birth assistance at the beautiful Family Birth Center located in Boulder Community Hospital. The Family Birth Center offers a home-like environment that supports a non-interventive experience for women while they labor and give birth to their babies. The Birth Center also offers the safety net of a hospital with the support of physicians if an emergency arises.
Post-partum care:
The post-partum period is often underestimated in its importance. We want to be certain that you understand the impact of having a new baby and are prepared for this new and exciting time in your life. We support breastfeeding and assist women post-partum when needed. We review signs and symptoms of baby blues and post-partum depression so women are prepared for hormonal changes that can occur. We are available to help women process their birth experience and offer referrals for lactation support and home visit support post-partum as needed. We have women follow up at six weeks postpartum for an annual exam, sooner if necessary.
